Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is an innovative approach to psychotherapy that integrates the use of ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic with psychedelic properties, alongside traditional therapeutic techniques.
Historically used as an anesthetic agent in medical settings, ketamine has shown potential in treating a variety of mental health disorders, notably depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In KAP, the medicine serves as a catalyst to facilitate deeper therapeutic work, allowing patients to access and process previously suppressed or inaccessible emotions, memories, and traumas.
Administered under the supervision of trained medical professionals and in tandem with our trained mental health clinician, KAP provides an altered state of consciousness that can aid in breaking through psychological barriers and fostering profound insights. As with all psychedelic therapies, preparation, integration, and proper setting are paramount for therapeutic success.
In our commitment to offering comprehensive and innovative therapeutic modalities, we have established a partnership with a licensed prescriber to facilitate Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). This collaboration ensures that our clients receive a holistic approach, combining the medical expertise of the prescriber with our therapeutic know-how.
Before any KAP session, a thorough screening process is undertaken to determine the appropriateness of the intervention for each individual. This assessment accounts for both psychological and medical considerations.
There are notable contraindications to be aware of with KAP. From a medical standpoint, individuals with certain cardiovascular conditions, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or a history of brain lesions or aneurysms may not be suitable candidates.
Additionally, those with a history of substance abuse or certain psychotic disorders, such as schizophrenia, may be at a heightened risk of adverse reactions. On a psychological level, individuals with severe anxiety might find the dissociative aspects of ketamine overwhelming. Moreover, those who lack a supportive environment or the ability to engage in the necessary integration work post-session may not benefit as much from the therapy.
Through our partnership, we ensure that these contraindications are meticulously screened for, optimizing safety and efficacy for our clients.
