Feeling anxious is a normal part of life, but when these thoughts, feelings, & sensations become overwhelming, it interferes with our ability to function normally and in a healthy way.
We may begin to do things to avoid feeling these things because they become so uncomfortable and sometimes outright terrifying that we try at all costs to stop that from happening again, even changing our behavior. Over time, our lives become more and more restricted and many people suffer from debilitating anxiety that interferes with much of their daily lives.
Suffering from anxiety and panic disorder tends to be a very stigmatized and isolating experience, as the general public doesn't understand the intensity of what this experience is like. They may say things like, "feel the fear and do it anyways." And while that is advice that may be helpful for some, for other's that is just downright impossible.
